January 11, 12, 13
The Bay Area Black United (BABUF), has again partnered with Kaiser Permanente, the title sponsor the African American Health Summit 2007, and is joined by KBLX and the United Way of the Bay Area as premiere sponsors for the African American Health Summit 2007. The full Summit will be held January 11, 12, 13, 2007 at the Oakland Marriot City Center and the Oakland Convention Center. The theme for the bi-annual Summit is "Strengthening Our Relationships" and looks at the connection between strengthening our relationships and achieving better health outcomes, as well as reducing the incidences of violence.

Thursday, January 11 - Combined Faith Based and Youth Health Institute
The Kick off event for the 3rd African American Health Summit begins Thursday, January 11, 2007 with the Combined Faith and Youth Health Institute from 7:30 am - 12:45 pm at the Oakland Marriott City Center. In support of Oakland´s newly elected Mayor Ron Dellums´ Interfaith Luncheon, the Summit´s Faith and Youth Health Institute will end at 12:45 pm.

The Summit´s Faith and Youth Health Institute offers a dynamic program that includes Eugene Williams, of the Los Angeles headquartered Regional Congregational Neighborhood Organization Training Center, a workshop on the day in the life of African American youth led by Oakland based Leadership Excellence and features keynote speaker Dr. Joe Marshall, Jr., founder of the Omega Boys Club. A complementary Pastors and Faith Leaders Breakfast begins at 7:30 am (RSVP in advance). A reduced $25 registration fee that includes a buffet breakfast is requested from all faith groups and youth providers who attend. Friday, January 12 - Summit Conference
Friday´s Conference on January 12, 2007 features local Bay Area clinical psychologist and television host Dr. Brenda Wade teaming up with local psycho-therapists, activists and healers Daisy Hall, Linda Compton, Derethia DuVal, Taj Johns, Asara Tsehai, Mary Ann Jones and Jenee Jackson. San Francisco´s community minded District Attorney Kamala Harris is the luncheon keynote speaker followed by workshops on Critical Mass Health Conductors, Black Infant Health, Tavis Smiley´s Health Convenent, Healing the Generation Gap, and a workshop for non-African Americans to discover how they can be supportive to Black communities. Registration is $65 and includes a continental breakfast, luncheon program and afternoon health mixer.

Saturday, January 13 - Free Health Expo
Billy Blanks, the originator of Tae Bo, returns to the Free Health Expo for an unprecedented third time. Tae Bo classes are at 10:30 am and 2:30 pm at the Health Expo on January 13, 2007. Call the YMCA at (510) 451-8039 ex. 124 for shuttle information in Oakland.

The Health Expo offers a full day of workshops focused on relationships. Also featured are Free hair cuts by Healthy Oakland, the Northern California Senior Steppers, Senior Line Dancers, healthy cooking demos, the YMCA of the Eastbay´s Wellness Challenge and Super Hero Fitness for Kids, the Rock Wall and many more activities. The new youth pavilion at the Health Expo will provide free health screenings, workshops and exhibits of special interest to youth and young adults.

Kaiser Permanente, the Ethnic Health Institute, the Bay Area Black Nurses, the 100 Black Men, Children´s Hospital, the Kidney Foundation and others have teamed up to offer free screenings for blood pressure, glaucoma checks, diabetes, vision, prostate cancer, dermatology, sickle cell and many more health education activities. There will also be an ask the Doctor Exhibit booth.
The African and Caribbean Mas Parade
Begins at 12:00 pm on the Main Stage

Followed by the African-Carribean Immigrant Health Dialoque
At 2:00 pm in the Calvin Simmons Ballroom
